I've spent so much time and effort trying to convince Americans on the
left that traditional American values make good sense and
shouldn't be thrown out wholesale just for the sake of "change", with
so little success, I've become convinced that the values themselves
aren't the problem. My sister and her family live much more
conservatively than I and my family do, but spout extreme leftist
values. I usually put it this way, she would never rob a Bank,
but she would make excuses for anyone who did.
I sometimes think if those of us who now support
traditional values switched to leftist values, todays leftists
would switch too, I'm not sure they like us. They don't seem to
want to be identified with us. I try to explain that the fact that I
agree with most traditional American values doesn't mean I have
never questioned them. I have. I questioned them, in fact continually
question them, and see great value in them. Questioning is
not synonimous with rejecting.
Count me as puzzuled.
